QEEG Imaging &Neurofeedback
After your initial consult and chance to meet and get to know your clinician, you’ll come in for your first of two one-hour sessions to complete your QEEG BrainMap/Imaging session. During your first session, we will gather your background information, develop goals for your training, and place our dry 24-electrode cap on your scalp, which is pain-free, without wires or messy paste. We conduct the QEEG (Quantified Electroencephalograph) – Quantified, meaning comparing your brain function to those of the same age, sex, and handedness without any mental, cognitive or emotional limitation; Electroencephalograph – can be translated to electrical-brain-picture. Graphing the electrical firings in your brain while in a relaxed state, with ten minutes eyes open, and ten minutes eyes closed for optimal data gathering. We will provide you with preparation instructions prior to your first visit, so you can be ready for a great QEEG reading on the day of your appointment.
Your second session is where we go over our findings and make Neurofeedback protocol as well as any nutritional or therapeutic recommendations. You will receive your report in its entirety, this will help you understand your brain, show you the likelihood of mental disorders and severity of concussions based on our Biomarkers map. This takes the guess work out of your diagnosis and helps us determine underlying factors that we’ll focus on during training. These reports are helpful in school settings to set appropriate accommodations and recommendations, as well as in collaboration with your medical team in neurology, psychiatry and general practice practitioners. You own these reports for future reference and healthcare appointments.
Neurofeedback Sessions are based entirely customized from your presenting symptoms, pressing concerns and your QEEG data. Our QEEG-Identified Protocol Recommendations are quite sophisticated and are able to train approximately 500-700 voxels (cubic mm sections of the brain) simultaneously. Sessions are approximately one-hour and while the science and technology are quite complex, the viewer is passive as the brain is doing the work – not the mind! The brain likes input. In a typical session, the client will watch a movie or play one of our many games which are controlled by their ability to regulate and sustain healthy patterns of brainwave activity. The movie screen will become brighter as the brainwaves balance and normalize, and will dim when the brain moves away from its targets. The audio component mimics the central nervous system and is more synchronized and harmonious when the client is relaxed, focused, and reaching their goals. The brain’s natural desire to keep the game going or movie to play, and the audio melodic and pleasing to the brain reinforces the neurological circuits and tells the brain “stay there!” The more these circuits are reinforced, the more neuroplastic changes take hold. The process trains the brain to stay in these healthier norms during the tasks and demands of everyday life.
Research has shown Neurofeedback to be most effective twice per week for approximately 20 sessions. Certain clients may need more depending on their needs. This is to sustain long-lasting changes. We will go over a plan for you individually during the review and recommendation process and have discounted rates for purchasing bundled sessions. Neurofeedback is non-invasive, holistic and thus, there is no down time, no known lasting side effects.
